Facing Your Fears: CBT-Based Anxiety Research Study

Page Published on: 8/17/2026

Researchers from the Autism and Neurodevelopment Lab at Montclair State University are seeking autistic youth ages 8–14 who experience anxiety, along with a parent or caregiver who lives with them, to participate in a research study. The study will provide children with strategies to help manage anxiety while researchers measure how their brains respond to these strategies.

Participants will be randomly assigned to either a Treatment or Waitlist Control condition. Those in the Treatment condition will receive the 14-week Facing Your Fears CBT-based intervention, while those in the Waitlist Control condition will receive the program at a later date.

All participants will complete three study sessions involving assessments, questionnaires, and EEGs before and after the intervention period.
