Furloughs of State Workers Scheduled for July

July 01, 2020

In an effort to address anticipated budget shortfalls, the State reached an emergency agreement with the Communication Workers of America (CWA), the union representing state workers. This agreement furloughs workers during the month of July to avoid job layoffs. The agencies affected include the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and the Department of Human Services Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), among others.

For DCF, where about 5,800 of DCF’s 6,700 employees are represented by CWA, furloughs will result in “significantly modified operations” throughout the month of July, with staffing reduced to approximately 50%.

DDD furloughed nearly 600 workers in their Community Services Offices.

Both DCF and DDD remain open and operational, but stress that the furloughs may affect waiting and response times on routine issues.
