We are excited to share that Autism New Jersey has partnered with the New Jersey Dental Association to survey dentists across the state about the practices they use when treating patients with autism.
The results will allow us to pinpoint gaps in care and develop targeted strategies to increase the number of autism‑friendly dental providers statewide.
Families often report significant barriers to accessing dental care. Many parents tell us that their children have not seen a dentist in years because they cannot find an autism-friendly dentist or one who can accommodate their child’s sensory needs and behavior. At the same time, dental professionals report limited training in autism-friendly practices and uncertainty about how to care for autistic patients safely and effectively.
Please invite your New Jersey dentist to take this survey.
The partnership with the New Jersey Dental Association is part of Autism New Jersey’s Advancing Healthcare Initiative. This initiative was launched in 2022 to improve access to high-quality, compassionate healthcare for individuals with autism in New Jersey in meaningful and lasting ways.
