Severe Challenging Behavior Policy Recommendations
June 11, 2019
Governor Murphy’s Fiscal Year 2020 Budget proposal allocates $9.5 million in state and federal dollars toward addressing the needs of individuals with severe challenging behavior.
We commend the Administration for acknowledging this portion of the autism and I/DD community and are proud to announce our formal policy recommendations to address the needs of children and adults with severe challenging behavior. We shared these recommendations with the Governor and Legislature and feel strongly that these recommendations, if implemented, will position New Jersey as a national leader and provide a blueprint for other states to follow.
For far too long, families have told us harrowing stories of pain, injury and the revolving door of ineffective services. Essentially, they have nowhere to turn. With thoughtful and systematic implementation of our recommendations, the State of New Jersey can be more responsive and increase access to desperately needed treatment.
