CASP Releases Third Version of ABA Practice Guidelines for the Treatment of ASD
September 20, 2024
On May 7, 2024, the Council of Autism Service Providers (CASP) released version 3.0 of its Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Practice Guidelines for the Treatment of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The guidelines help ABA practitioners, government and private healthcare funders, regulatory bodies, and consumers make the best decisions regarding medically necessary ABA treatment to improve the lives of autistic people. The previous edition, version 2.0, of the guidelines was released a decade ago in 2014 by a different organization, the Behavior Analyst Certification Board.
The updated practice guidelines are based on high-quality, scientific evidence and expert clinical opinion regarding the use of ABA as a behavioral health treatment for individuals diagnosed with ASD. Numerous topics pertaining to ABA are covered in the document including, but not limited to, assessment, case conceptualization, treatment planning and implementation, outcome measures, collaboration with patients, caregivers, and other professionals, staffing and delivery models, and training and certification.
