Autism New Jersey welcomes Stacie Sherman, a longtime journalist and mother of two children on the autism spectrum, as its new communications director. She takes over for Cassidy Grom, who will remain a consultant for the organization.

Sherman brings more than three decades of experience as a New Jersey reporter and editor, covering everything from state budgets to COVID-19 to company earnings. As an autism parent, she has a deep understanding of the many issues that affect the disability community. She regularly chronicles her life as an autism mother as a way to help other families feel seen and less isolated.

“So many powerful stories within the autism community remain untold,” said Dr. Suzanne Buchanan, Executive Director of Autism New Jersey. “Stacie’s personal and professional experiences make her the ideal person to bring these stories to life, especially amid ongoing shifts in national healthcare and disability funding. Her leadership will help ensure that the voices of individuals with autism and their families are heard, valued, and represented.”

Her appointment comes during Autism New Jersey’s 60th anniversary as the organization has been undergoing a rebranding process and developing this new website to better serve the autism community. In addition to storytelling, the communications director provides strategic guidance for Autism New Jersey’s overall messaging, media relations, and digital presence. Her role will enhance the organization’s visibility to drive greater engagement both within the autism community and among the public-at-large.

“It is a true honor to become part of Autism New Jersey and contribute to its mission,” Sherman said. “I’m looking forward to highlighting the organization’s incredible impact, as well as helping to ensure that autistic individuals and their families are valued and supported.”
