Autism New Jersey Expands Support to Siblings

Autism New Jersey recently hosted a heartfelt panel discussion featuring siblings of autistic individuals as they shared their unique experiences, challenges, and joys. This workshop provided a space for connection, support, and practical insights on navigating family life, fostering strong relationships, and embracing the sibling bond.
“It was always like that I was the little-kid third parent, or that understudy parent,” Kellie Palomba said during Autism New Jersey’s recent sibling panel, featuring brothers and sisters of individuals with autism.
Palomba talked about the highs and lows of living and growing up alongside her brother, who exhibits severe challenging behavior. She, along with four other panelists, described adapting to their siblings’ needs; learning to keep themselves, their siblings and others safe; and ultimately creating unbreakable family bonds, allowing them whether the challenges of life with good humor — and a deep love for their siblings.
It was a night of sharing, laughter, and honest conversations.
