36th Annual Conference Attracts Record Crowd

A record crowd of 1,338 attended the 36th Annual Autism Conference in Atlantic City last week. The two-day event hosted 72 workshop choices and 111 exhibits to meet the information and resource needs of professionals and families.

“We are proud of the turnout and feedback on the 36th Annual Conference,” said Elizabeth Neumann, Autism New Jersey Education & Training Director. “We appreciate all of the work of the presenters, exhibitors, volunteers, and staff that made it such a success.”

Autism New Jersey’s 800.4.AUTISM Helpline provides families and professionals with specific and important information about autism treatment and services available in New Jersey.
With 111 exhibitors, the conference offered parents and professionals information pertaining to individuals of all ages and varying abilities including educational/state services, legal/financial needs, and clinical expertise.
An audience of more than 1,300 attended this year’s keynote “Parent-Professional Collaboration: How to Promote Meaningful Communication on Difficult Topics” presented Robert LaRue, Ph.D., BCBA-D, Rutgers University, Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center with Eileen Shaklee, B.A., “Autism with a side of fries” blog.
Attendees of the Gold Member and Friends Luncheon were touched by the words spoken by Anna Turning as she read her winning Sibling Essay Contest entry inspired by her brother Eric, “A Letter to my Little Brother: Thank YOU for Teaching ME.”
A well-attended Research Poster Session offered conference attendees findings on the latest innovative research. We thank our professionals and students who submitted proposals and shared their work.
