Autism New Jersey staff at a conference table with Robbinsville Police Department to discuss its SAFE program.

Autism New Jersey is proud to offer Law Enforcement Autism Planning Sessions (LEAPS) free of charge for municipal- and county-level leaders in law enforcement. Let us partner with you to help your agency be as autism friendly as possible! When autism-friendly practices are implemented, law enforcement, people with autism, and the community at large all benefit.

Typically, planning sessions can be accomplished virtually and within a few hours at your convenience.

Here are the steps.

  1. Autism New Jersey learns about you. Tell us about the community you serve, your agency’s talent and resources, and your successes and challenges.
  2. You learn about our initiative. We will share the most critical components of our statewide Law Enforcement Initiative and highlight autism-friendly practices that are in place throughout the state.
  3. We work together on autism-friendly practices for your agency. Together, we will review the list of autism-friendly practices, discuss advantages and potential barriers with each of them, and decide which ones are potential fits for your agency and community.
  4. Autism New Jersey makes connections for you. Whether it’s a local trainer, a mentor, an Autism New Jersey SAFE Network member, or an individual at a county level, we will connect you with the right people within two weeks so that you can learn more about a specific practice and start implementing effective autism-friendly practices in your agency.
  5. Autism New Jersey follows up. The most effective trainings and consultations involve follow-up. We will reach out to you throughout the year (at a frequency that works for you) to promote your successes and provide ongoing support as needed.

If you would like to learn more about our Law Enforcement Initiative or leadership planning sessions, email us at LE@autismnj.org.

We look forward to hearing from you!
