Answering the Call in 2021
December 03, 2021
In the midst of an isolating and devastating year,
Autism New Jersey provided continuous support and connection.
In looking back on this year, there was one project that showcases what Autism New Jersey does best, our Special Needs Vaccine Clinic.
Launched in March as vaccines were just approved and being rolled out, this partnership with Visiting Nurses Association of New Jersey helped vaccinate close to 400 individuals with autism and I/DD. Many of the individuals we assisted had significant behavior challenges that could not be accommodated by other mega-sites across the state.
“I was really concerned about how my autistic son would handle such waits. It turns out that my worries were unfounded! As soon as we came to the site, I called the number that was provided. The Autism New Jersey staff answered promptly and within seconds we were taken to a vaccination station and my son was given the shot. It was amazing how quickly it all happened. Thank you, Autism New Jersey and all your staff, for organizing this and making it a great experience for my son.”
We offered special accommodations and our clinical experts reviewed each case individually to ensure their needs could be met.
“I can’t say enough about the nurse and staff in general. They went out of their way to accommodate my daughter, including bringing the vaccine to her when she was afraid to walk across the floor to the tent. From the first day of my daughter’s diagnosis 27 years ago to now, Autism New Jersey has been there for us.”
We answered the call when others could not.
Now we’re calling on you!
This clinic is just one example of the work we do. Autism New Jersey’s keen understanding of the complex needs of those with autism, as well as our ability to identify service gaps and offer solutions, sets us apart.
